What Happens After the Evaluation Testing is Completed?

At the end of evaluation, you return to the care of your local physician. Once all the testing is completed and the results are compiled, the full team meets to review your case and decide whether transplantation is recommended for you. Even though meetings are held weekly, we must wait for all test results to become available before your case is reviewed; patients are generally notified from one to two weeks after all results are in, but it can take several weeks before you are notified. If accepted into the program, you will be notified by a team member and receive a confirmation letter.

Remember that the final decision to have surgery belongs to you. You may withdraw from the program at any time prior to receiving your new heart. If you decide to have the surgery, various members of the transplant team will provide support and guidance through the next phase of the process—the waiting period.
