The Division of Plastic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center is pleased to welcome Lloyd Hoffman, MD, as Associate Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center. He will transition to Columbia from the Division of Plastic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center as of December 1, 2017.

Dr. Hoffman completed his general surgery training at The New York Hospital–Cornell Medical Center, after which he completed fellowships in plastic surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery at the Institute for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at New York University. He returned to New York Hospital in 1987 where he became the youngest division chief of Plastic Surgery in the country. The Division of Plastic Surgery grew significantly under Dr. Hoffman’s leadership; he is credited with creating the Cornell Hand Service and the Children’s Reconstructive Surgery Center. He then went on to direct the first combined Division of Plastic Surgery when Cornell and Columbia merged as NewYork-Presbyterian in 1998.

Dr. Hoffman’s clinical and research interests have centered on tissue transplantation, seroma formation, and breast reconstruction. While serving in academic and clinical leadership positions at NYP for almost three decades, Dr. Hoffman has focused intensively on teaching residents and students. His interest in serving patients has led him to found the charitable organization Children’s Reconstructive Surgery Center and to volunteer with the Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer and Healing Hands. He also volunteers in the Middle East, performing surgery on children who have been victims of terrorism.

Dr. Hoffman has won numerous awards for his teaching and surgical skills. He has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Council of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, a highly respected leadership position with oversight of plastic surgeons nationwide.
