Three residents have rotated so far to New Nyanza Provencial Hospital in Kisumu, Kenya. There are three general surgeons on staff including those with experience in pediatric and orthopedic surgery. Approximately eight general surgery cases are completed daily. Small bowel perforation from typhoid, trauma from traffic accidents, collapsed roofs, muggings, burns, and even crocodile attacks make the surgical experience varied and exciting. Residents rotating here can expect to be offered an opportunity to cover their own cases alone within their comfort level. Weekend outings can take advantage of safari opportunities in the nearby Masai Mara, visiting rainforests, and visiting local villages and orphanages with hospital staff.
