Highlights of Our Center

A team-based approach

Parathyroid disease can affect many parts of the body, which is why our surgeons and endocrinologists team up closely with specialists from across the Columbia medical campus to make sure every aspect of your condition receives expert care.

Advanced surgical options with less scarring, faster recovery

New, minimally invasive techniques allow us to fully treat parathyroid disease while putting less stress on your body. That means smaller incisions, smaller scars, less pain, and an all-around quicker recovery.

More surgical experience, better surgical outcomes

We perform more parathyroid procedures than any other program in the region, giving us more experience that’s been proven to translate to better results and outcomes. In addition, our Endocrine Surgeons are world leaders in the field of Endocrine Surgery and have written international guidelines on the care of patients with parathyroid disease as well as serve in the leadership of national and international Endocrine Surgery societies.

Advanced parathyroid imaging

Our group has optimized the 4D CT scan, a specialized CAT scan that is 97% accurate at identifying diseased parathyroid glands.  In contrast, most parathyroid imaging tests like sestamibi scans are only about 80% accurate.

Metabolic Bone Unit

This pioneering team of parathyroid experts has conducted much of the critical research in parathyroid disease, oversees international guidelines that physicians use to care for patients, and provides second opinions to patients from all over the world with parathyroid disease that is difficult to diagnose and/or manage.

Pediatric Parathyroid Services

Our team of dedicated pediatric parathyroid experts focus on the care of children with parathyroid diseases.

Coordination and convenience

Our center features a dedicated patient navigator to help make sure your experience with us goes as smoothly as possible. They’ll help prepare for your appointment, coordinate with other specialists, clarify any insurance and billing concerns, and will always be available to make sure your questions are answered. For added convenience, we also offer same-day consultations, as well as video visits which can be done from the comfort of your own home.

Anesthesiology – Doctors in this field oversee sedation during surgery and pain management in the immediate post-surgery period

Genetics – Some parathyroid disorders have an inherited component, and some inherited diseases may affect the parathyroid. Geneticists help identify your risk for these conditions and the risk of passing them on to your children.
