Vincent P. Duron, MD

An experienced pediatric surgeon, Dr. Vincent Duron’s expertise includes neonatal anomalies, minimal access surgery, and the critical care treatment of pediatric surgical and trauma patients. He has a special interest in improving access to surgical care in developing countries, and has been involved in global health projects in Russia, Cameroon, Malawi, Kenya, and Peru. Throughout his years of training, Dr. Duron’s clinical research led to publication of multiple articles in pediatric trauma and global health issues.
In addition to providing pediatric surgical care to the patients of CHONY, Dr. Duron is Surgical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit where he collaborates with the unit’s intensivists on protocol and evidence-driven measures to treat the sickest surgical patients. In particular he is interested in the study of fluid resuscitation and respiratory failure in the pediatric surgical and trauma patient. Dr. Duron has received multiple research and teaching awards including the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dr. Arpan Goel, MD, general and bariatric surgeon, has a special interest in abdominal wall hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction. Dr. Goel’s appointments prior to arriving at Columbia include Attending Surgeon at WestMed Medical Group and at Harlem Hospital Center. Dr. Goel received the 2014 Attending Teaching Award at Harlem Hospital Center, and was named Outstanding Resident Teacher three years in a row at Montefiore Medical Center (2005 – 2007).
Beth Hochman, MD

Dr. Beth R. Hochman is an attending surgeon in both the Acute Care Surgery service and the Surgical and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Units. Her clinical interests include the full spectrum of trauma, emergency surgery, and surgical critical care.
Though she has published in a variety of clinical sources and completed a Clinical Research Certificate program at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Dr. Hochman’s research interests lie in collaborative efforts in translational medicine, having recently served as a clinical fellow in the BIOLines Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). She is also very interested in medical student and resident education, including international medical opportunities. To date, she has participated in medical initiatives in Peru, Chile, Sweden, India, and Kenya.
Thomas Imahiyerobo, MD

Thomas A. Imahiyerobo, MD is an expert in the treatment of cleft lip, cleft palate, craniosynostosis, frontal facial advancement and orthognathic (jaw) surgery. He also specializes in the care of adult cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck. In his role at the Craniofacial Center at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, Dr. Imahiyerobo will care for patients of all ages with craniofacial differences. Dr. Imahiyerobo is the author of numerous academic publications and recipient of many honors and awards, including recognition by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for his outstanding patient care.

A native of France, Dr. David Kalfa is a Board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with a subspecialization in pediatric cardiac surgery. Dr. Kalfa specializes in minimally invasive congenital cardiac surgery, hybrid procedures, complex neonatal procedures and tissue engineering in the field of congenital cardiac diseases. He has received multiple French and international awards and grants supporting his research between 2008 and 2015, and was appointed as a medical/research expert for the National Biomedical Agency. He co-patented a polymeric bioresorbable valved cardiovascular prosthesis in 2013.
Dr. Kalfa is leading numerous European and North-American multicentric studies about outcomes after repair of complex congenital cardiac defects and neuropsychological outcomes. He is Principal Investigator of a 7-partner European consortium aiming at creating a tissue-engineered living and autologous valved conduit for repair of complex congenital cardiac disease (European Research FP7 Grant of more than 4.5 Millions of Euros).
Abraham Krikhely, MD

Dr. Abraham Krikhely is an experienced general and bariatric surgeon who specializes in hernia surgery, surgical treatment of GERD and hiatal hernias, benign and malignant gastrointestinal disease, and robotic surgery. He routinely publishes in his field and presents at national and international meetings.
Dr. Krikhely completed his undergraduate degree from NYU Stern School of Business and his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine. He performed his residency training in General Surgery at NYU School of Medicine, after which he completed his fellowship training in BariatBariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center. He then joined the full-time faculty at Maimonides Medical Center, where he built a successful practice focusing on bariatric and minimally invasive abdominal surgery.
Emmanouil Pappou, MD, PhD

Dr. Emmanouil Pappou’s clinical interests include the entire spectrum of colorectal surgery including benign and malignant conditions, anorectal, abdominal and pelvic surgery, as well as minimally invasive techniques including laparoscopic, robotic and endolumenal procedures. Serving as surgical lead for the Pelvic Floor program, Dr. Pappou is well versed in minimally invasive approaches including robotic surgery and sacral neurostimulation (SNS).
Dr. Pappou’s position also includes leadership in clinical and laboratory research and outcomes within the Division of Colorectal Surgery. He has a keen interest in research and is an author on numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, published abstracts, oral presentations and book chapters. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Johns Hopkins George D. Zuidema Research Award for Meritorious Laboratory Research for work on novel chemotherapy treatments in colorectal cancer.
Shilpa Ravella, MD

Dr. Shilpa Ravella has been recruited to NYP/Columbia to lead the adult small bowel program as well as spearhead the GI evaluations for abdominal transplant patients. Her collaboration with Department of Surgery faculty is integral in the care of patients with liver and gastrointestinal disease. She is fully trained in general gastroenterology and has a strong background in intestinal disease, having completed advanced training in both inflammatory bowel disease and nutritional management of GI disorders. In addition to working closely with the intestinal transplant team, Dr. Ravella also works as a member of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Richard Schutzer, MD, RVT, FACS, FICA

Dr. Richard Schutzer arrives from North Shore/LIJ, where his expertise in limb salvage, dialysis access and percutaneous aneurysm repairs had other vascular surgeons referring him their most complicated patients. In his position at NYP/Columbia, Dr. Schutzer will continue to focus on these interests as well as venous insufficiency. He also performs spinal approaches during orthopedic surgeries.
After performing his residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, Dr. Schutzer completed a vascular fellowship and training in advanced endovascular techniques at Cleveland Clinic. During his nine years at North Shore/LIJ, he performed more than 600 cases per year with a notably low complication rate. A co-author of more than 30 publications, he lectures widely and currently serves as an editor for the International Journal of Angiology.
Gary Tannenbaum, MD, RVT, FACS

Recognized as an accomplished general surgeon as well as a vascular surgeon, Dr. Gary Tannenbaum is proficient in both open and endovascular techniques. In his practice at Lawrence Hospital, he will provide the full range of procedures for carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysm, lower arterial disease, dialysis access, and cosmetic vascular procedures. His most recent research involves drug therapies for lower extremity vascular disease.
Dr. Tannenbaum earned his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1983, after which he continued at NYP/Columbia for his internship, residency, and research fellowship. Post-residency training included critical care anesthesia at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia and general vascular surgery at New England Deaconness Hospital, Harvard Medical School. During his 20 years in private practice in the tri-state area, he served as Director, Department of Surgery; Chief, Division of Vascular Surgery; Medical Director, Wound Healing Center; and Medical Director, Vascular Laboratory at St. John’s Riverside Hospital, Yonkers, New York.
